Title Sequences

North by Northwest
North by Northwest is a film produced by the company "MGM". The title sequence to this films represents a green background with black lines going diagonally through the screen. It then creates a graphic match, changing the green background and black lines into an office building. By doing this, you see that the diagonal lines were made to represent the windows in the offices.

In title sequences, there is a certain routine that is followed. The order is that the production company logo is the first thing that is shown. Secondly, the names of the main actors and actresses are shown. In this case, the names "Cray Grant" and "Eva Marie Smith" are shown. After this, the name of the director and film are shown. In this case "Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest". There are also other names that are shown in the title sequence, for example the co-stars, and other cast members such as who created the music and who directed the photography. At the end of the title sequence the director's name is always shown.
The opening sequence represents the film and gives the audience an idea that it is going to be a thriller. I think this as the music is very fast and is quite tense. Representing a thriller movie.

Se7en
Se7en is a film produced by the company "New Line Cinema". The title sequence to this film is set out differently to North by Northwest as it presents the names of the actors between shots from the film. Some names are shown on these recorded clips whereas others are shown on a plain, black screen.

In this film, the title sequence starts with the name of the production company, which is "New Line Cinema" which is then followed by the name of the producer which in this film is "Arnold Kopelson". After that, the name of the director is shown, which is "David Fincher" which is then followed by the main actors in the film. The actors are "Brad Pitt" and Morgan Freeman". The name of the film is last to be shown. As the film is a thriller, the title sequence is very cleverly made. This is because in a thriller there is a lot of action going on and a lot of things to think about. The title sequence resembles this as it has a lot of different clips being shown at a fast pace. The title sequence also gives a hint that the film is about Christianity as in one of the shots you see a man cutting out the word "god" and the film is called "seven" which is also related to Christianity.

Panic Room
The company that produced this film was Columbia Pictures. In the title sequence, the names that are being shown are created in a way that they look like buildings. This is a hint as to what the film is about.

The title sequence to this film also starts off by showing the name of the company that produced the film which was "Columbia Pictures". After this the name of the producer is shown along with the name of the main actors. There are then other actors shown that star in the film such as "Kristen Stewart" and "Ian Buchanan". Different people who were involved in the making of the film are then shown. These are people such as the editor, producers, writers and then once again the name of the director. The title sequences foreshadows information from the film. The fact that there are sounds being added to the normal everyday sound of traffic and the fact that the filming is from above, it is giving the impression that the film may be about spies or about someone mysteriously watching someone else.
