Speed of Editing
Speed editing is used in videos to help the viewers know where they are and what is happening. For example in a film the beginning is always quite long so that the audience has an idea of what is happening. It is important that the viewers know what is happening at the beginning of the film otherwise they will be confused throughout the rest of it. Speed editing is also used to create emotion. depending on the time of the clip, it gives the audience an idea of how much time has passed. The main reason of speed editing is to keep the flow of the scene smooth and understandable.
Style of Editing
This is the movement between scenes. For example the fades, straight cuts and the jump cuts. This is very important when filming as it is this that strings the film together and emphasises the key elements which the film is trying to portray. Straight cuts are used to make two clips into one. By using this they make the two clips looks like one whole clip without there being any unnatural movement between the two different clips.
Each of these styles of editing are used in many different videos you may see. Whether it is a film, a music video or even a YouTube video.
